Bands & Soloist

The perfect environment for musicians

A purpose built studio, 15 mins drive from Oxford with an air conditioned 250sq ft live room, digital and analogue equipment and comfortable rooms for relaxation.

You will find a supportive and enthusiastic engineer plus the right equipment at a reasonable price. We have ProTools HD2  and a vintage JADE 32  desk as our main recording setup with lots of valve and solid state outboard. Other recording formats are also available.

We've enjoyed working with each and every musician who has passed through our door, often to become friends along the way. As well as being able to listen to the bands featured here, we are putting together an archive selection on our Soundcloud page.

Out of the Blue an Oxford based, all-male a cappella group have produced nine studio albums at Hats Off capturing their characteristic energy, enthusiasm and excitement. They recently released a charity single to raise money for Helen & Douglas House Childrens Hospice. Recorded at Hats Off the song covered the three Shakira hits 'Hips Don't Lie', 'Whenever Wherever' and 'Waka Waka'. Their video went viral after Shakira herself tweeted: 'hey @ootboxford we LOVE your a cappella Shak medley!' See the boys in Studio Videos

Spider County is a collaborative studio EP Mickie has produced with songwriter Andy Pearson. Must mention King Adz here, Mickies son, filmmaker, and creative designer who shot the video.

angelaspace Angela Space wears her heart on her sleeve. Listen to her songs, she's quirky, charming, beautiful, and complicated.......just like a 'Normal Girl'.

thelostchord The Lost Chord Dave Towsend and Phil Humphries recorded all the fun and excitement of the bygone era of the English Music Halls. With the unique combination of the rich-toned Serpent and the sweetness of the English Concertina, they sing hilarious and risque ballads and play eccentric and virtuosic instrumentals.

thelostchord The Original Rabbit Foot Spasm Band play original material influenced by 1930s jazz and 1940s jump blues and great fun to have in the studio. See them in action at Stonesfield Septembeerfest on Saturday 27 September 2014.

thelostchord Jess Goyder writes and performs elegant and soulful songs for piano, guitar and strings. Since starting her recording career at Hats Off, the last eighteen months have seen her hit national radio, tipped as one out of five of the music publishing industry’s ‘brightest prospects’ "Really enjoyed listening to Jess' CD.....she has a really lovely voice."   Johnnie Walker BBC Radio 2
thelostchord Swindlestock celebrates the life of the itinerant soul. They play blues and folk tales from the byways of the world, seen from two wheels at speed, or more slowly by feet. The Flood is their fantastic studio album and we love their music.

theparade The Parades Lead singer, Dan Bartlett, first came to the studio when he was just a young lad, recording with 'Coopers Rage'. He never forgot his roots! Parades have a catchy pop funk soul sound, you will find yourself singing their songs before you realise it. Their studio video is at the top of this page.

Take a look in Studio Videos  'Adieu Sweet Lovely Nancy' with Judith & Nick Hooper. Thanks to Mickie for the stunning studio, your dancing & laughter. This is my first 'Official' music video which makes me ridiculously excited Kirsty xx

traps Traps, a four piece, female fronted alternative rock / punk band from Oxford. In 2013 they won the national Battle Of The Bands competition and as a prize, came to Hats Off to record 'Capricorn'.
